Designing A Powerful Vision Board

Designing A Powerful Vision Board

Designing a Vision Board can have a powerful affect on manifesting your dream life, because when you work with the law of attraction, what you see in your thoughts turns into real feelings and experiences in the outer world. And in order for your thoughts to become an external reality, you have to maintain a very clear vision of what it is you desire, being careful not to dwell too long on what you do not desire. A Vision Board can help keep you focused.

Once you’re clear on what you want, it is necessary to repeatedly visit your vision to keep the empowering thoughts in motion. Things in motion have energy. Simply having an occasional thought about what you wish you had is not enough; you have to develop intentional thinking.

Creating your first Vision Board is an effective (and fun!) way to make your visualization practice feel more concrete because it uses physical images and symbols to represent your desired outcomes. Pictures, quotes, and affirmations can all be used to design your board and motivate you to keep going until your goals have become a reality.

Spending time with a more physical version of your thoughts keeps you focused so that your mind doesn’t wander to random or negative thinking. It keeps your eye on the ball of what you want.

How To Design Your First Vision Board

You can create a Vision Board in two basic ways. You can use a large physical version, or put a version on your computer. Personally, I like to use a physical version because I can take it with me to various rooms in my home to always keep it in clear view.

You can buy ready-made poster sized (24” X 36”) products such as poster board itself, foam board, or a tri-fold display board (as large as 36” X 48”). Foam board and display boards are a little more costly, but they are far more durable, and the display board option (which I use) can be folded “closed”, which saves space, and also keeps your board private.  You can also use a whiteboard, or any other solid piece of material that allows you to write on it or attach photos and images.

If you’re the type of person who likes to decorate your refrigerator (or locker) with magnets, you can use that as your board too! It’s entirely up to you how you want to see the Vision Board. I recently found this fabulous magentic white board and cork board combination (which comes in 3 sizes) that looks perfect for the kitchen or work area.

Planning the Vision Board Design

Spend a few hours really contemplating what it is that you want to include on your Vision Board. Sometimes I’ll get ideas a few days after I’ve started my project, and I’ll go back and add them to the board. Ideas for categories that you can include are: Health, Finances (money), Relationships (love, friends, or family), Career (or job), Achievements, Personal Growth, Lifestyle, Spirituality, Social, and any other area of life that matters to you.

Depending on how many goals you have, you may even consider creating different boards for different categories.

As you begin to add images, quotes, affirmations, and other things to your board, be certain that you like the way they look all together and that the spacing is good before finally securing them to the board. I like to use a product that sticks to the back like a post-it style paper so that I can move things around later. Once you’re certain that the board is exactly as you want it, you can glue, tape, tack, and stick everything more permanently. As soon as everything looks good to you, you’re done! Voila! You now have your vision board.

Space to Create

While creating your board, it is best to find a private space where you will not be disturbed. You need your secluded thoughts and intuition to guide you through this process.  Interruptions, including well-intentioned friends or family, can break your natural flow of concentration and self-reflection. Make sure you’re relaxed.

Some people like to play music or light candles while working on their board. Whatever atmosphere will help you create the best vision board is the one you should set up for yourself.

If, by chance, you experience any negative or stressful thoughts while building your board, simply note the thoughts, take a deep breath, and allow them to pass. If they pop up again, simply repeat the deep breathing and allow them to pass.  It can be normal for the mind to want to jump to thoughts of a current stressful circumstance while you’re dreaming, or for a doubting voice to emerge about your creations. It’s OK if this happens. You can even “thank” a thought for dropping in, and let it know that you heard it.  Then allow it to pass.

Images, Quotes, and Material for Your Board

Magazine clippings, photos, cards, and any printed images work very well for a vision board. Use anything that helps you mentally experience the feelings, events, opportunities, and material things you wish to manifest. Images of homes, vacations, love, nature, jobs, sports, health, money, cars, and anything else you can imagine are usually perfect for the board. For example, if you want to attract love into your life, you can use photos of couples, or weddings. If you are trying to manifest a new job opportunity, you can use photos that show people working in that field. One example for me, that I use in the area of health, is pictures of healthy foods, fun physical activities, and photos of women women older than my age, and that who are very fit. It is very important that you are specific with what you want. By using photos of older women, I’m telling my subconscious that I’m staying healthy for the longer term. This is what works for me. You have to do what works for you.

You can use quotes and affirmations that resonate for you. Magazines are a great source of inspiration, or you can print items from your computer. I’ve been known to use cards that I’ve received that have inspirational words on them, or notes from people who care about me.

It’s powerful to includes words that represent the way you want to feel. Words such as:  strong, confident, joyful, on-purpose, loving, happy, beautiful, inspired, brave, etc. can all work very well.  Just be sure to keep the board efficient so that it doesn’t get cluttered or over-whelming. If looking at your board creates a sense of overwhelm, then you may be attracting overwhelm into your life!  Be mindful that the Law of Attraction works this way.

Strategically Using Your Vision Board

Spend as much intentional time as possible absorbing the images, words, and feelings attached to your image board every day. It’s not enough just to keep the vision board in an area where you’ll glance at it.  Focused time allows your imagination and feelings to engage with it’s content. Picture yourself living the life on the vision board. This is a powerful mental visualization technique. Become absorbed in being the person with that life by soaking in the emotions created by your images. This is the time to imagine yourself really living in the life you’ve created on you board.

Now you are on your way! Enjoy the ride.

In 2006, "The Secret" documentary emerged as a powerful discovery for changing lives through the Law of Attraction. I had already been manifesting my own wealth, health, and personal relationships for many years, and was excited that someone had finally documented the steps for positive change. Many people benefited from the teachings, though some still struggle to implement the Laws, and some simply have not yet been introduced to these concepts. The goal of this site is to help get you on the Path of living a life you absolutely love! Using these practical steps that anyone can easily apply, you can manifest your dream life. Let's begin, again.
